In May 2016, cotton growers' Cooperative Association of China Cotton Association and Xinjiang Huatai professional cooperative, respectively, conducted surveys on the sowing area and seeding progress of cotton planting in 2016 and the growth of cotton seedlings in 2971 households in 12 provinces of the mainland and 310 counties (cities and regiments) in Xinjiang autonomous region.

The survey results showed that: in May, most cotton areas in China were in the seedling stage, and the cotton sowing (planting) basically ended.

According to the weighted average of cotton planting area of cotton farmers surveyed, the area of cotton planting in the whole country is 41 million 296 thousand mu, which is 10.1% lower than that in 2015, which is equal to the previous forecast. Among them, the cotton planting area in Xinjiang has been reduced by 6.3%, and the area of the the Yellow River River Valley and the Yangtze River Basin has been reduced by 19.1% and 15.1% respectively.

In May,

Yangtze river basin

The heavy rainfall process in cotton area is frequent, and some cotton fields are flooded, which is unfavorable for cotton growth. Heavy rainfall causes floods in some parts of the country. Some cotton fields are flooded, and rain and litter also cause cotton seedlings to grow slowly and grow feeble.

Delayed harvest of wheat and rape resulted from prolonged rain.

At the end of May, the sowing rate of the river basin was 94.64%, which slowed down by 3.4 percentage points compared with that of the last year. A small amount of cotton was not pplanted. At the same time, the low temperature and rainy weather kept the cotton seedlings slowly growing, slowly growing, and even the phenomenon of stiff seedlings and dead seedlings.

The overall growth of seedlings was far worse than that of last year. The occurrence of pests and diseases was slightly heavier than that of the same period last year, mainly for Damping off and a small amount of anthrax and brown spot.

By the end of May, the national cotton sowing rate was 99.08%, a decrease of 0.58 percentage points over the same period last year, and the planting of Xinjiang cotton and the Yellow River catchment was completed.

Nearly 73% of the cotton seedlings in China are in the 4-8 true leaf stage, and some areas are in the bud stage. The cotton growing period in most cotton regions is near or early. Some cotton growing periods in Xinjiang are late, and the seedlings are mainly one or two kinds of seedlings.

The incidence of diseases and insect pests is relatively low, with 65.5% of the diseases being lighter, 52.7% of which are less insect pests, and 23.2% of the better seedlings.

In May, it was affected by adverse weather.

Xinjiang

In cotton area, the growth of cotton is insufficient and the seedling is weaker than the whole year.

During the month, some cotton areas suffered from rare cold, rainy and sand blowing weather, and cotton growth was affected to varying degrees.

Nearly 60% of the cotton seedlings in Xinjiang are in the 4-8 true leaf stage. Among them, the cotton seedlings in North Xinjiang are basically 3-4 leaves and one heart. The growth is slow. It is expected to enter the bud stage in early June. The cotton growth in the southern Xinjiang is better, and the cotton seedlings are in the 6-8 true leaf stage.

This year's cotton seedling diseases and insect pests are relatively light, but the disaster situation is not optimistic. Among the surveyed households, the disease accounted for 64.9% of the disease and 64% less of the insect pest. The proportion of the disaster situation in Xinjiang was 63.9%, which accounted for 63.9% of the total damage. The proportion of the disaster affected group was close to 70%. The overall seedling situation was worse than that of the same period last year.

As of the end of May, the cotton planting and pplanting in the Yellow River basin were all over.

This month, there was a more obvious precipitation process in the basin, which effectively supplemented the soil moisture in the cotton field, improved soil moisture, alleviated the drought in some cotton areas, and the appropriate light and temperature in the month was conducive to the growth of cotton seedlings.

However, precipitation in some parts of central and southern Hebei, northern Henan, Western Shandong and other places is not enough.

The overall growth of seedlings was worse than last year. In May, the occurrence of cotton diseases was lighter than that of the same period last year, mainly with a small amount of Fusarium wilt, damping off and anthrax.
