Flannel Trousers

Recently, the "toxic" content of composite plush pants has aroused heated discussion on the short video platform. The video said: "The composite plush fabric is adhesive, high formaldehyde content, toxic, do not buy", many netizens were worried about this, and said in the message: "Do not buy the plush fabric, how can we live in this cold winter!"

So, is composite plush really toxic?

Answer first: As long as the clothes are formally produced and the hanging tag has the mandatory safety executive standard GB 18401-2010 National Technical Code for Basic Safety of Textile Products (the mandatory standard GB 31701-2015 Technical Code for Safety of Textile Products for Infants and Children is applicable to infant and children's clothing), there is no need to worry too much.

   What is "composite flocking"?

If you want to know what is "composite texturing", you must first know what is "composite".

Compound, as the name implies, is Combine two different fabrics It is a process that is widely used in garment processing. For example, the assault suit of the current fire not only needs to be compounded once, but also usually needs to be compounded twice to form a three-layer composite fabric, so as to achieve the effect of preventing rain outdoors and expelling moisture from the body at the same time. Some fabrics with three-dimensional decorative effects are also realized through the composite process.

In addition, it is difficult to weave the fabric we wear everyday until it weighs 300g/㎡. However, the warmth retention of clothes is closely related to the thickness. The thicker the clothes are, the warmer they feel. So you can choose to stick two relatively thin fabrics together to become thicker and more warm.

As for "composite flocking", it usually means that a certain fabric is combined with polyester fiber (that is, we often say "polyester", and the fabric made of it is made into coral wool, fleece, cashmere, flannel and other styles through the napping process), and then combined with the thermal underwear fabric. For example, the thermal underwear plush series we often see is a combination of normal outer fabric and fluffy inner fabric.

Is there formaldehyde in the glue of composite fabric?

There is a saying "no glue without formaldehyde", which is because most of the glue we used in the past is urea formaldehyde resin, phenolic resin, especially for bonding plates, leaving the impression of strong correlation between glue and formaldehyde.

   But for the glue used in the composite process of sticking two fabrics together, there is usually no concern about formaldehyde release. Because the composite of fabrics should ensure a certain degree of softness, such adhesives as urea formaldehyde resin and phenolic resin have high hardness, and they are usually not used.

At present, hot melt adhesive and oil glue are commonly used for bonding of composite fabrics:

   1 Polyurethane hot melt adhesive

The most commonly used hot melt adhesive in the clothing field is polyurethane hot melt adhesive (abbreviated as TPU or PUR hot melt adhesive), which is characterized by good bonding strength, very soft material itself, good elasticity, good heat resistance and water resistance, and is suitable for the clothing field. The composite has little impact on the hand feel and softness of the fabric, and will not decompose formaldehyde. It meets the safety standards and is relatively expensive.

There are also many scenarios where hot-melt adhesives are used in clothing and textile processing:

Common business shirts use a lot of adhesive interlining to make clothes more three-dimensional, neat and stylish;

The seam of down jacket is pressed with strip hot melt glue instead of sewing thread, which improves the anti drill down and waterproof performance;

Medical protective articles, such as protective clothing and masks, also use hot melt adhesive, and more hot melt adhesive is used in the production of shoes.

   Therefore, there is no need to panic about the use of hot melt adhesive for composite plush clothing. Products that meet the national safety technical specifications are safe for human body.

   2 Oil glue

Manufacturers with cheap pictures will use "oil glue" to dissolve the glue with organic solvent and let the container volatilize and stick after the composite is completed. This oil glue composite fabric is not very safe and environmentally friendly. Although it does not contain formaldehyde, there will be residual volatile organic solvent.

   This kind of smell can also be well distinguished. After receiving the product, you can smell it with your nose. If you feel that there is a pungent smell that makes you unhappy, you can return it directly and reject it.

In addition, after the thickness of the composite fabric is increased, the thermal insulation of the thermal clothing using the composite process has been greatly improved, but some pores between the fabrics are also blocked by glue, which will have a certain impact on the permeability of the clothing. The comfort may not be very good, but the price is relatively cheap.

summary

   The plush clothes are glued with glue, but there is usually no need to worry too much about formaldehyde and other problems, but if the product has a pungent smell, you must be careful to buy it.

The main reason for the popularity of composite plush underwear is that it can use very low production costs to get a warm feeling, but it is also easy to sweat and generate static electricity, which is usually found in low-end thermal underwear products. If you want to pursue a more comfortable thermal experience, it is better to choose thick thermal underwear with non composite technology, and it is better to blend acrylic fiber, recycled cellulose fiber and spandex.
