European Union

The EU directive to restrict the use of perfluorooctane sulfonyl compounds (PFOS) will be formally implemented in June 27th.

It is understood that the European Union is one of the most important textile export places in Zhongshan. In 2007, Zhongshan exported $260 million to the EU.

The implementation of this directive will undoubtedly have a great impact on the export of textiles, leather, paper, packaging, dyeing auxiliaries, cosmetics and other products.

According to the introduction, PFOS is the main active ingredient of antifouling agents for textiles and leather products. It is widely used in the civil and industrial fields. It is one of the most difficult organic pollutants to be degraded at present. It has high bioaccumulation and toxicity. It not only causes respiratory problems, but also leads to the death of new born babies.

The European Parliament adopted the directive to restrict the use of PFOS in October 25, 2006.
