At 10 a.m. in the western United States on January 7th, the fifty-third CES (International Consumer Electronics Exhibition International Consumer Electronics Show, referred to as CES) was officially opened in Las Vegas, USA.

On this CES, the leading technology related to the automotive industry is still hot. In more than 300 thousand square feet exhibition area, attracted more than 140 companies including Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Fiat Chrysler, Ford, general motors, Honda, Hyundai, TOYOTA, Nissan and other auto manufacturers, as well as parts suppliers, aftermarket service providers, software and chip development, self driving technology companies.

This also means that the technology exhibition of consumer electronics has gradually become an important "showcase" for the automotive industry, and the technology exhibited by CES is also regarded as a weathervane for the future development of the automotive industry.

"CES is the exhibition center of the latest technology of automobile. Technological innovation makes our road safer, and in the future, our cars will be connected more closely." CES organizer CAT, President and chief executive officer of the consumer electronics manufacturers association, Gary Shapiro, said.

With the advent of the era of global 5G commercialization, the automotive industry is ushering in a new round of change. In the new revolution, as the landing scene of many leading technologies, the automobile is also redefined: it is not only a transportation tool, but also a mobile space that carries people's multiple needs.

Therefore, from intelligent cockpit to intelligent driving to the future travel mode, numerous manufacturers are breaking through the border with their technological advantages and waiting for the outbreak of the market.

Technology giants join the battleground

During the period of CES 2020, the most notable is SONY's pure electric concept car Vision-S. According to the introduction, SONY combines the SONY imaging and pleasure, AI, communications and cloud technology, equipped with 33 sensors, the interior part is equipped with 360 Reality Audio sound field technology and widescreen display.

"As the leader of global CMOS sensors, we feel that we should do something in the field of automatic driving." SONY CEO Yoshida Noriichiro gave such an answer.

It is understood that, including NVIDIA, Qualcomm, ZF, BOSCH, blackberry, Continental group, a number of enterprises involved in the creation of SONY's car.

But at present, the concept car has not yet announced mass production plan.

On the other side, Amazon announced its ambition in the field of travel.

In January 6th, Amazon announced the expansion of its Alexa Auto voice assistant vehicle integration. Its voice assistant can be used in many auto manufacturers' products. In January 7th, Lamborghini became the first Alexa brand in the world.

Amazon is planning to become a key player in the field of mass data management, such as autopilot, networked vehicles, electric vehicles, and car manufacturers and drivers. Cloud computing and data management services AWS will become the core of Amazon strategy.

Tencent, one of the Internet giants in China, has joined the "war". Its smart travel integrity business matrix has appeared in this CES and released the TAI3.0 eco vehicle network. The business module mainly includes automatic driving, automotive cloud, intelligent 4S solution and 5G vehicle road collaboration.

"The competition in the automobile industry has changed, and the past" singles "mode has gradually changed into a joint" double play "between automobile enterprises and Internet technology enterprises. Tencent hopes to play the role of "connector", give full play to Tencent's ecological connectivity capability, connect the upstream and downstream partners of the industrial chain such as car companies, developers, ecological service providers, and promote the coordinated development of ecological industries through intelligent means, and ultimately achieve humanized service. Zhong Xiangping, vice president of Tencent Inc, said.

Therefore, the crossover between traditional host plants and technology giants has become one of the trends in the future.

In January 7th, BMW announced on CES 2020 that the 2021 production of iNext all electric SUV will become the first luxury car equipped with standard 5G wireless network. At present, BMW is working with Samsung to produce supporting 5G information components. The built-in SIM card will be used to provide 5G function, which means drivers and passengers do not need to carry 5G smartphones or tablet computers. In addition, BMW group has reached 5G mobile communication business in China market and China Unicom.

Behind the "big show" of Automotive Technology in consumer electronics exhibition is the huge market of intelligent network. According to the relevant departments estimates, by 2035, the intelligent network will occupy 20% of the world's new car market. By 2030, the demand for autopilot will increase the revenue of Automotive Software by more than 3 times, reaching US $1 trillion and 200 billion.

Therefore, the industry believes that the smart car market has just begun to emerge when the smartphone market is gradually saturated. The transformation of technology companies to more promising automotive areas is a key part of the future layout.

Autopilot return to level L2/L3

The same changes also include knowledge of automatic driving inside and outside the industry.

In the past few years, CES, L4, L5 high level automatic driving system has always been the protagonist of CES automotive technology. This year, the company's enthusiasm for autopilot is becoming rational. From then on, it directly directed the L4/L5's high level automatic driving to the landing of L2/L3 automatic driving technology.

The industry generally believes that before the commercialization of fully automatic driving, the popularity of automatic driving at level L4/L5 takes longer. It is more practical to popularize L2/L3 level technology as soon as possible.

There are two main reasons for the fact that autopilot is "realistic". From a technical point of view, technology development is lower than market expectations. We underestimate the difficulty of automatic driving, and invest heavily in technology, but progress is slow. Robtaxi is almost the same as last year's development level. On the other hand, the international capital market has experienced a decline in investment fatigue. In January 7th, Yu Yinan, general manager of horizon intelligent driving, said in an interview with reporters.

In the view of Yu Nan, there are some new highlights in autopilot. The commercial distribution of unmanned logistics distribution and truck automatic driving in specific areas is faster than expected.

ZF also believes that autonomous driving and automatic driving are important technologies to help the future traffic become safer, more efficient and more comfortable. In different application scenarios, the market needs a variety of solutions. At present, the intelligent driving auxiliary function, that is, the L2+ automatic driving system, is most likely to be widely used in the field of passenger cars. By contrast, L4 and above fully automated driving systems will probably be used in commercial vehicles and urban passenger transport.

Although the application of autopilot in public transport still depends on regulations, in the field of commercial vehicles, vehicles have been able to operate in advanced or automatic driving modes in enclosed areas or in specific lanes. In addition, the system cost generated by the driverless transportation in the station or urban passenger transport can be quickly amortized in operation, thus saving the cost for the customer.

Ford hopes to achieve L4 level automatic driving and "last mile" logistics service in 2021. It is now exploring the application of automated driving vehicles in transportation services with partners such as WAL-MART and may Le pizza.

Ford's folding robot Digit, currently on display at CES, will also solve the "last mile" problem of the express industry. It is envisaged that once a driverless vehicle reaches its destination, it can deploy Digit to grab the package from the vehicle and carry out the final step of the delivery process.

In addition, the CES site, Qualcomm announced the launch of a computing system for automatic driving vehicles, designed to handle all functions from lane control to full automatic driving, which can meet the complex computing needs from L1/L2 ADAS (Advanced Driver assistance) to L2+ and L4/L5 automatic driving. According to the plan, the system will be delivered to the host plant and Tier 1 supplier in the first half of 2020 for early development. The vehicle equipped with the platform is expected to be put into operation in 2030.

Although high level automatic driving is difficult to land in the short term, in the industry's view, in the process of automobile industry transformation, the most difficult place to achieve L4 and L5 automatic driving is to ensure its stability and safety. The commercial application of 5G communication technology will solve some technical bottlenecks existing in the automatic driving vehicle.

It is understood that the automatic driving vehicle will generate a lot of data when driving auxiliary system and semi-automatic driving function, which requires real-time data interaction and data processing in vehicle, background and cloud. Facing the future, 5G communication technology will also lay the foundation for vehicle interconnection and high-speed data interaction.
