Dezhou is one of the main cotton producing areas in the country. In 2009, the cotton planting area in the city was 2 million 300 thousand mu, 19% lower than that in 2008.

On August 8-13, a large scale of high intensity rainfall occurred on the 270 day, with an average of 270 millimeters and the maximum rainfall of 340 millimeters, which had a major impact on the growth of cotton in the boll setting period. Especially in Xiajin, Yucheng, plains, Qihe and other counties, the rainfall was very large.

According to preliminary statistics, a total of about 300000 mu of cotton were affected, of which nearly 100 thousand acres were severely affected.

Under the influence of rainy weather, cotton production is expected to decrease by about 20%.
